Artist in Residence
March 29, 2012
Stoddard School was very lucky to have Mr. Beach spend a week with us the first part of March. He taught us about music and about writing songs. 4th grade wrote a song about "Pioneer Kids Heading West".
Thad Beach has conducted over 250 residencies in the schools through arts councils in Kansas, Iowa, North and South Carolina Iowa and Nebraska. His programs all focus on music, creativity, language arts, folklore and performing arts skills while exploring a wide variety of curriculum related topics. His programs include the 'Band in a Bucket' for pre-school and grades 1,2,3 and 'The Songsmith Songwriting Residency' for grades 4-6. The 'Band in a Bucket' combines songwriting, homemade musical instruments, movement, creative drama and language arts. The 'Songsmith' residency has students write an historical ballad about a topic of local or regional history, heritage and culture from information gathered through questionnaires and oral history interviews with family members, neighbors and the community.
