Kindergarten at Beatrice Public Schools

The Kindergarten Program at Beatrice Public Schools strives to provide a safe, happy environment where all children grow and develop at their own rate.  In our classrooms you will find:

1.Children playing and working with materials and other children.
2.Children having access to various activities throughout the day, such as block building, pretend play, picture books, paints and other art materials, and table toys such as legos, pegboards, and puzzles.
3.Children busy experiencing music, movement, and discovery activities.
4.A classroom decorated with children’s original artwork, their own writing with invented spelling, and dictated stories.
5.Children learning numbers and the alphabet in the context of their everyday experiences. Exploring the natural world of plants and animals, cooking, and taking attendance, are all meaningful activities to children.
6.Children working on projects and have long periods of time to play and explore. Filling out worksheets is not their primary activity.
7.Children having opportunities to play outside every day that weather permits.

8.Teachers working with individual children, small groups, and the whole group at different times during the day.
9.Teachers reading books to children throughout the day.
10. Teachers who recognize that children differ in experiences and background, they do not learn the same things at the same time in the same way.
